Purpose

 To provide guidance regarding the naming of buildings at Otago Polytechnic. 

Policy

1. The naming of Otago Polytechnic buildings will be in consultation with Kaitohutohu Office (KTO) and relevant stakeholders, with final approved from Te Kāhui Manukura (TKM) and will apply 

  • to buildings greater than 1,000 sq. m in size.  

  • leased premises where the lease is greater than eight (8) years. 

2. Otago Polytechnic buildings names will  

  • be in Māori reflecting local history, geographic locations or functionality (bilingual names will be provided from KTO Office) 

  • be retained for the life of the building, change in functionality or occupation will not lead to change in name of building. 

3. Smaller buildings, spaces, outbuildings, or defined areas may be referred to by their functional names with approval from TKM, for instance Eden Cāfe.
