Melissa Paterson has always loved art so after high school she followed her knack for drawing and enrolled in a Diploma in Architectural Draughting (Level 6) at the School of Architecture, Building and Engineering at Otago Polytechnic.
Now in her final year, the 22 year-old has big plans to travel and work with her qualification.
"The Diploma is an internationally recognised programme which I think is beneficial in the future, as I would like to travel and potentially work around Europe, Asia and Dubai in particular. I am looking forward to graduating and getting into the draughting industry. Seeing a building and being able to say I was involved in the construction will be so rewarding."
Melissa says the programme has been a challenge at times, but rewarding and enjoyable with the support of her lecturers. "We are lucky to have teachers that are or have been in the industry with plenty of experience."
