Jean Monk

Jean Monk BA, DipTchng, DipGrad, Cert TESOL

2011 is my fourth year working in the Learning Centre supporting students in their studies at Otago Polytechnic. I have a particular interest in helping students from non-English speaking backgrounds, and I also teach English to Speakers of Other Languages in the School of Foundation.

I really enjoy helping students to succeed, recognize and improve the skills they already have, to enable them to succeed in their courses. I also help students to improve their writing which results in improved grades.

Helen Lindsay

Helen Lindsay

I have been working at Otago Polytechnic since March 2003. Prior to this I had studied Zoology at Canterbury University to Master’s level. After a number of different jobs ranging from Contract Scientist to Early Childhood Centre Manager I decided to train as a Secondary School Teacher. I taught Science, Maths and Biology for five years before coming here.

I am available for group or individual assistance with mathematics and science. I can help with students studying bioscience, or animal or human physiology. Also, I can help with maths for foundation studies, nursing, carpentry, mechanical and automotive engineering, and introduction to civil engineering, business, tourism, and some computing – pretty much wherever maths is taught in the Polytechnic. I also assist students with assignment writing skills, study skills and information literacy skills.

William Lucas

William Lucas BSc, DipTchng, Cert TESOL, Life-long Learner!

I have worked part time at the Learning Centre for several years. This year (2011) from April, I will be in Japan where I shall support students at a distance using a variety of online tools.

My areas of interest are ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Maths, Science, and I admit to a love/hate relationship with computer technology :-)
