Poho

Poho is a dedicated Māori space that operates according to Kai Tahu Tikaka and Kawa.

The office of the Kaitohutohu oversees the booking of this space, which is primarily focused on Ako Māori - teaching and learning relating to Māori.  Bookings are done  through Syllabus Plus who check  with the Kaitohutohu whether a request may be granted or not

Tikaka and Kawa guides the opening and closing of hui – meetings.  This also relates to the clearance or blessing of kai – food prior to consumption.  It also means that there MUST be a separation of working time and kai time, so when using Poho, work related  korero/conversation is in one area and the kai is in another (while having a break in work).  Thus, kai is set out and consumed away from the working space.

Also there are tikaka guidelines relating to these same areas, in that hats and eyeglasses are related to the head area (tapu or restricted) and as such must be kept free from kai or kai related spaces (noa or unrestricted).

It is unlikely but should Poho be needed for a matter of urgency (for example tangi related)this will take precedence.

It is appreciated that these are all undertaken in a manner we as Māori would wish these to be done.
