There are a number of fees and costs you will be expected to pay for when you enroll and begin your studies at Otago Polytechnic. They are:
What these cover, and approximate costs are detailed below:
Fees for each programme are listed in the Programme Information Sheet
At the time of enrolment you will be expected to pay Ancillary fees – this is an overall contribution for services that you received at a heavily subsidized rate while you are a student at Otago Polytechnic.
In 2011 the annual Ancillary fee was NZD$696.00 (or $676.00 for one semester)
This fee goes to pay for services such as: OPSA (Otago Polytechnic Student Association), Health Services, Unipol and OUSA recreation services such as Clubs and Socs which coordinate a range of inexpensive activities and societies for tertiary students in Dunedin.

In addition to your fees, you need to expect and budget for additional annual costs for books, materials and other programme-specific resources. These will vary dependent on school, and your year of study.
Details of these costs are indicated on your Programme Information Sheet, or you can have them confirmed by contacting the School Administrator for the programme.
During orientation week, many schools will issue you with a list of essential books and equipment required. One way to minimise costs is to buy your books and equipment secondhand. Look for advertisements on noticeboards around campus and at your local grocery store. The University Book Shop also sells and buys secondhand books.
If some of the textbooks on your list have a ‘reference only’ caption next to them, you do not need to purchase these books – these can be found at the Robertson Library.
