Veterinary Nursing Instruments

The programmes offered by Otago Polytechnic’s School of Veterinary Nursing are located in facilities at the Dunedin Campus or at other venues in New Zealand. We also maintain close working relationships with the SPCA, veterinary clinics, grooming parlours, kennels and catteries.

Students enjoy the chance to develop their skills and broaden their understanding of the veterinary nursing and the animal-related industries in the modern and extremely well resourced veterinary training laboratory, animal room and teaching rooms and established work-based training facilities in the field.

Veterinary Nursing, Fulltime and Distance Options, Animal Care and Rural Animal Technology are run at our Dunedin Campus. Facilities include a multi purpose veterinary training lab with a reception, computer suites, a surgery and preparation areas containing:

  • Anaesthetic machine and all associated monitoring equipment
  • Dental machine
  • IV fluid therapy equipment including fluid pump
  • Large drug dispensary (placebo only)
  • Animal room containing rabbits, rodents, rats, mice, guinea pigs, birds and fish
  • Small and large animal specialised equipment for first aid, handling
  • Reception area
  • Surgery and preparation rooms
  • Models, diagrams and posters
  • Biology and microbiology laboratory facilities

PLUS all veterinary nursing staff are highly motivated and enthusiastic lecturers and tutors.

Cats and dogs are utilised in lectures and practicals to demonstrate the correct procedures and compliment the learning environment.
