Ask anyone in the animal related and veterinary industry and they will tell you about their strong sense of job satisfaction. Whether you are nursing a sick animal, providing proactive and preventative health-care to pet owners, providing emergency treatment, working in a zoo, TB testing cattle or working within a surgery or farm setting, these are careers which involve specialised skills and knowledge required on a day to day basis, with the most rewarding of results.
All Otago Polytechnic programmes are developed in close consultation with the animal-related industries, ensuring that the skills students learn are the skills they will actually need in the work-place setting.
What is more, many Otago Polytechnic staff work part-time in their industry, and/or are specialists in their field. The infusion of ideas from these practicing professionals ensures that the most up-to-date methods are taught.
Every Otago Polytechnic programme is designed with a specific career-path in mind. This means that all of our programmes prepare students to enter the work-force fully trained, with the appropriate skills in relation to their chosen career path. The career focus works too - employment rates for our students are excellent.
Most Polytechnic programmes, including within the School of Veterinary Nursing, offer the opportunity for further study, allowing cross-crediting towards other animal related programmes or higher-level qualifications within the veterinary nursing or university field.
Otago Polytechnic programmes provide the perfect mix of practical training and classroom-based theory work. Nowhere is this more evident than in the programmes offered within the School of Veterinary Nursing.
