Software for School of Information Technology Students

As a student of the School of Information Technology you are able to get some free software from Microsoft and VMware.

VMware

We have an agreement with VMware to allow our students access to selected VMware software. The webstore can be found here.

Microsoft

The School of Information Technology has a Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance agreement which allows our students to access licenses for many Microsoft products. Available software includes all Microsoft operating systems, servers and most applications; however, Microsoft Office is not included. You can purchase Microsoft Office here for a discounted price

You can install this on your own computer and do not need to remove it when you finish studying. However, you cannot use it for any other purpose other than your own education.

You must agree to the MSDNAA terms before using any software provided under this scheme. The terms can be found here

To access the software, there are two steps:

  • Obtain the Licence
    • Browse to the MSDNAA website for Otago Polytechnic and log in. Once you have logged in you can browse the available software. Licenses and serial keys will be sent to your student email
  •  Get the Media
    • Software is available in ISO image format and can be found on L: drive when you log onto any Otago Polytechnic desktop.

ISO images can be mounted via Magic Disk or burned to optical media. Disks can be published for you by the school technician, however there is a $2 charge for the disk.
