Educational Development Centre

The Otago Polytechnic Educational Development Centre (EDC) supports educational and professional development in the education sector.

A warm welcome is extended to all who wish to explore ways to enhance their educational practice.

EDC offers the following:

Programme/course design support for existing and new curricula, including:

  • Individual support, information and/or advice
  • Flexible learning (including online learning)
  • Social media and informal learning
  • Open education

Professional Development:

Support, advice and guidance can be provided for individuals and groups on all aspects of teaching, training, facilitation and assessment.

On-going education opportunities are offered through the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Learning and Teaching (GCTLT, Level 7) and a growing selection of Adult Education and Training Unit Standards.  EDC supports such areas as:

  • Reflective practice
  • Teaching observations
  • Networked learning
  • Individual and and group mentoring

Treaty Education Training Unit (TETU):

  • Educational opportunities through the Certificate in Mata ā Ao Māori programme which includes, as a stand-alone course, Introduction to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Support for the provision of Māori content in courses and programmes.

Education for Sustainability (EfS):

Support can be provided for the integration and application of sustainability within all programmes.  An educational opportunity is offered flexibly to help staff increase their understanding of what EfS is and how it can be incorporated in their practices through:

  • adapting generic resources
  • integration into programmes and teaching
