What is Central Lakes Trades Academy?

The Central lakes Trades Academy is a government approved partnership between local secondary schools and Otago Polytechnic.

The Central Lakes Trades Academy will deliver trades and technology programmes to secondary students in the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago district.

The purpose of the Trades Academy is to:

    provide students with a wider range of options for study in their NCEA

    provide students with clear post-school pathways and give them a head start to achieving vocational qualifications

    allow schools and Otago Polytechnic to be more responsive to local business and economic needs

There is no cost for this programme as all costs are funded by the government.

Who can study at the Central Lakes Trades Academy?

If you are a year 11-13 secondary school student attending Cromwell College, Dunstan High School, Mount Aspiring College, Maniototo School, Roxburgh School or Wakatipu High School who is interested in a career in trades or technology you may be able to combine study at the Central Lakes Trades Academy with studies toward your NCEA to gain a nationally transferable tertiary qualification at Level 1, 2 or 3.

Your school will have to agree that the Trades Academy Programme is the right option for you.
