This course is taught in the Bachelor of Visual Arts by lecturers in the Electronic Arts Section.
In Digital Literacy, students are introduced to a wide range of fundamental digital devices (hardware) and programmes (software) as well as problem solving techniques related to their uses. Students will gain an understanding of relevant digital skills in relation to their study and art practice. This paper will ensure that all students gain a fundamental confidence in the use of a variety of digital tools, and an over-arching understanding of their wider application to the development of their art practice.
Students take practical workshops in software skills, digital equipment and their uses, as well as attending a seminar series of contextualised lectures explaining the use of digital technologies in contemporary art. Students also undertake a conceptual project utilising their skills.
Mark Bolland, MA is an artist and writer who joined our staff in January 2012 to teach in Electronic Arts and Photography as a Senior Lecturer.
Ted Whitaker, BFA is a graduate from the Electronic Arts section of the Dunedin School of Art at Otago Polytechnic. Ted will be working in the workshop sessions in this paper and is an excellent digital practitioner, who has his own art practice.
