Questionnaire

Along with your portfolio, the School of Art Application Questionnaire assists the Admissions Panel to assess your suitability to our programmes.

Like the Portfolio, the Questionnaire should not be a daunting task - it gives you the opportunity to tell us about your passion for art. It asks the following questions:

  • What experiences do you hope to have during your study? e.g. Why are you attracted to Art School, and Otago Polytechnic in particular? What skills do you want to gain?
  • How do you see our degree contributing to your long term career aspirations?
e.g. do you hope to be a teacher, arts advisor, self-supporting artist, curator etc and how do you see your degree helping in this?
  • Describe briefly what contact you have had with works of other artists e.g. exhibitions attended, galleries visited, books read etc
  • Summarise the types of visual arts activities that you have participated in e.g. group exhibitions, solo exhibitions, commissions, awards, membership of art associations, evening classes, summer schools etc
  • Describe aspects of art that you respond to, both positively and negatively think about your favorite artist or art movement - why does it appeal? If their is an artist/art movement you hate - why does it have this effect on you?
  • Reasons you feel you should be considered for Advanced Entry into Bachelor of Fine Arts. You may have already studied at another University or Polytechnic Art School and feel that the School of Art Otago Polytechnic offers the hands on art practice that you are not receiving from your current education provider. Alternatively you may already be an established artist and do not want to start at the beginning.
  • Questions 7 & 8 are for Graduate Diploma applicants only.
The Graduate Diploma is a one year full time, or part time to suit option for students who have already completed a degree in a related field and want an intensive period of study within a single discipline. Question 8 asks you to write a brief project outline and is intended as a guide for us to customise a specialised path of study for you.
