Yoel Clark

Yoel Clarke gets a buzz out of learning new things. So it’s no surprise she has spent almost a decade studying a variety of programmes on offer at Otago Polytechnic.

“I have been a full time student, a CAPL student, and then a part time student so I feel I’ve experienced all facets of the student experiences Otago Polytechnic has to offer.”

Her journey began in 1999, when she completed a Certificate in Business Administration and in 2007, after several years experience in finance, administration and accounting, she was encouraged by her employer to take her education further.

“Following a an Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) presentation, I was able to cross credit my work experience towards the first two years of the Bachelor of Applied Management programme.”

Yoel continued completing her degree part time while working, and in 2009 she graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Management with Distinction, majoring in Strategic Management.

“The knowledge and skills gained during my studies have been invaluable, and completing the degree with a distinction was a rewarding achievement, reaffirming my capabilities and inspiring a thirst for continued learning.”

Since graduating Yoel has been promoted into a new position as General Manager at a Dunedin based national finance company. Her role includes leading project management, process improvements, and ensuring best practice across the company.

As for her career goals, Yoel is determined to keep moving forward in her work and study.

“Long-term I hope to continue with post grad studies, further my experience at a strategic level, and eventually either start my own business or obtain a CEO role within a company.”
