In the fast-paced  world of business, there will always be a demand for people who can get out there and make things happen.

The opportunities for business management graduates are extremely varied – they can work from day one in an operational capacity in a wide range of organisational types, environments and industries and potentially be able to provide specialist management advice and expertise.  This may include overseeing the recruitment and retention of staff, devising methods to improve productivity and efficiency, managing stock, creating new products and developing marketing strategies. Graduates may eventually work their way up to senior management level or operate their own business.

Salaries vary greatly depending on experience and the amount of responsibility involved in the position.

Bachelor of Applied Management

This initially focuses on the development of a wide range of core business skills and competencies as required of leaders in the business world and then involves intense, specialised study in one of six majors:

  • Tourism Management - the needs of the tourism industry locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Food and Beverage Management - management of food and beverage resources and planning for future sector growth and development.
  • Hotel Management  - the management of hotel resources and planning for future hotel sector growth and development.
  • Human Resource Management
  • Strategic Management
  • Entrepreneurial Management - business start-up and innovation.
  • Sport Event and Facility Management* This major is new in 2009. *Subject to approval.

For all majors you will be immersed in case studies, industry examples of best practice scenarios, workplace assignments etc. You will also undertake a major industry research project as the capstone feature of this degree.
