Beginners Guide to Blogging

The term “Blog” refers to a weblog. It usually a personal blog that can be a daily journal about a specific skill or topic, a personal portfolio, a method of contacting likeminded people, a small business, an educational group, a community group, or online contacting with communities.

This short course is run as a workshop over 2 x 2 hour sessions plus an hour to go to your local Community Learning Centre for extra tuition, as well as a complimentary workbook.

Introduction to MYOB

Mind Your Own Business (MYOB) is an accounting program designed for small to medium businesses. This course will take you through getting started and building on the skills needed to use the program effectively. You will need to have some knowledge of accounting or bookkeeping. There are four options available for this course:

  1. Basic Accounting Intro Book – This enables you to learn the terminology and concepts to use the MYOB program
  2. Intro to MYOB Book – This book explains the user interface and covers Creating a Business and Completing Transactions
  3. Introduction to MYOB Workshops.

 

Download and Use Skype

Learn how to download Skype from the Internet and navigate through it. You will be able to add other users to your Skype list and speak with them using a headset connected to the computer.

TradeMe

Learn how to become a buyer or seller – earn extra income by selling items from around your home or by starting a small business using this online auction system. You will also receive instruction on how to register with TradeMe – auctioning, bidding, buying after the auction, creating advertisements, uploading digital photos, pricing, shipping and more.

Maintaining Your Computer

Learn how to perform essential maintenance on your computer such as deleting temporary files, running Scandisk and defragmenter, emptying the Recycle Bin, overcoming computer freezes and opening up the system unit to replace or upgrade parts. We will also cover basic troubleshooting and Internet Security for spyware and viruses.

Create Your Own Computer Animations

Learn to use a program called Flash MX which is designed to create animations usually used to enhance websites. You will be taken through on how to get started and building on the skills needed to use the software productively.

Microsoft Vista

Learn the basics of using Vista. This includes the system requirements needed, installing Vista, how to upgrade, burning and ripping CDs, importing photos to your computer and more!

Get started with video editing by doing an introductory course to Windows Movie Maker. Use your digital video movie camera or digital camera and your computer’s video editing software to edit your movies to be so exciting and fast-paced they won’t leave your friends yawning! Get tips on filming techniques and how to import video into Windows Movie Maker, editing and adding audio, saving movies and burning them to CD or DVD.
