Diploma in Ceramic Arts (Level 6)

This is New Zealand’s only specialised programme in ceramic arts at tertiary level. It combines a wide range of studio practice and a comprehensive knowledge of glaze and kiln handling, allowing you to create forms and imagery that combine practical ability and intellectual energy. You will study ceramics theory by distance and undertake practical classes, either at locations in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Otaki, Nelson and Christchurch, or alongside an established master potter.

A distance option is also being offered where suitable arrangements can be made for candidates to study in their own area with supervision from an appropriate approved local ceramists. Arrangements are required for the drawing and theory components at level 5 and 6. Candidates are required to have acces to an appropriate computer as well as the operating skills levels to access Otago Polytechnic services as we monitor the course and deliver the Glaze Technology papers from Otago Polytechnic.

Entry requirements

You must have completed at least four years of secondary school education and be able to demonstrate an interest in art. Entry is by interview or telephone interview and submission of a portfolio.

International entry requirements

International Students: Must meet all stated entry requirements plus demonstrate English language skills equivalent to an IELTS overall band score (academic) of 5.5.
