Excellence in leadership staff award

To recognise a staff member’s excellence in leadership.

Awarded to: Jacquie Hayes, Community Learning Centre and Geoff Simons, Institute of Sport & Adventure

Jacquie has been awarded the staff excellence in leadership award for her outstanding leadership of the Mosgiel Community Learning Centre.  Her leadership has resulted in a large increase in the number of people in the community engaging with the centre, she has made significant efforts to ensure that courses have been adopted, or tailor made to fit the community’s learners needs.  She has been highly effective in marketing including a proactive approach to radio and newspaper stories and advertising.  Her role as a team leader is recognised as is her learning facilitator skills.
Jacque is a deserved person to receive this award.

Geoff held a formal leadership role for the polytechnic as Associate Head of School, Sports, but this award recognises Geoff’s personal leadership and his leadership of the ASTE branch.  Geoff has displayed great leadership qualities - a willingness to challenge, to listen and to lead by example.  He has contributed significantly to policy development and problem resolutions.  Overall, he has done much to make Otago Polytechnic a better place to work and is a worthy recipient of this award.
