To recognise excellence in innovation in any aspect of the development and delivery of Otago Polytechnic’s operations or the development and delivery of courses/programmes.
Awarded to: Pat Maguire, Design and Cookery Team, Hospitality
Pat has worked tirelessly on the development of the prototype facility in the Department of Design, but more recently Pat’s work on the development of the “Design Empowered Innovation through the Evolver model” is truly innovative in how the Department of Design using this model is able to work closely with industry. The outcome of this innovation work will continue to have significant opportunities for Otago Polytechnic and the region as we develop further our leadership in New Zealand and Internationally in the design area.
The excellence in Innovation award has been jointly awarded to the Cookery Team of Julie Feary-Law, Mick McHugh, Steve Ellwood, David Gillespie, Adrian Woodhouse, Tony Heptinstall.
This team has made astonishing progress in developing a truly student centred approach to the learning environment. The use of mobile technologies as a vehicle for students and others to access quality learning resources, such as the development of cookery material for iPods and on u-tube, has led to unprecedented interest in Otago Polytechnic’s cookery section. Outcomes for students have improved, industry has been impressed and OP cookery staff have received significant accolades, awards (including two 10k Ako Aotearoa awards), and prizes for their innovation in teaching and learning. Even a slot on Campbell live. This team clearly deserves this innovation award.
