Excellence in inclusive teaching staff award

To recognise an academic staff member who provides an outstanding learning environment which is truly inclusive of all learners, and especially Māori and Pacific Island students and students with disabilities.

Awarded to: Rachel Byars, Applied Business

Rachel teaches in the Bachelor of Applied Management in the area of Hotel Management.  Her experience over 13 years of teaching is engaging and inspiring bringing both, theory and practice together.

Rachel’s teaching to international students has been noted by other students to be of the highest standard and she was able to make students feel included in acknowledging their culture and experiences and was able to relate to their experience and culture, to the material being covered, students acknowledge these skills as being highly valued.
