Excellence in flexible learning staff award

To recognise excellence in the development, delivery or support of flexible learning.

Awarded to: Leigh Blackall, Educational Development Centre and Carolyn McIntosh, Midwifery

Carolyn has led the School of Midwifery in working with the implications of the development of their blended delivery Bachelor of Midwifery in collaboration with CPIT.  Leading staff in understanding tools and technologies to enable effective learning and teaching - getting herself and staff up to speed with things such as audacity, using Moodle, blogging, using eluminate, developing wikis and others.

Carolyn has been inspirational in her work which is changing the face of midwifery education both an Otago Polytechnic and CPIT and as such Carolyn is a worthy of this award.

Leigh has played a significant part in positioning Otago Polytechnic as an emergent leader in open and flexible learning.  Not only nationally but internationally.  Leigh’s passion for flexible and open learning is evident by the nature of extensive networks and tasks he engages with, he is a respected leader in social networking, pedagogies and open education resources.

This passion is evident through the range of influence he has had on changing traditional thinking around course delivery at Otago Polytechnic.  He contributes and supports colleagues, working with industries, trades, professional groups and others in shifting education to be responsive to their needs using a range of mechanisms such as developing wiki’s and blogging, to name just two.

Leigh is a worthy recipient of the Excellence in Flexible Learning award.
