In 2012 we will continue to undertake consultation and research to update the regional statement for the Otago region. In previous years we have been required by the Tertiary Education Commission to undertake an additional dedicated consultation process throughout the Otago region and with specific industry groups to update the Otago Regional Statement by 1 June of each year. Since 2009, process used to refresh the regional statement has changed. Now the emphasis is on utilising existing embedded stakeholder, industry and community Polytechnic processes. Rather than conducting this consultation within a set three-four month timeframe, the required consultation and research will be ongoing throughout the year.
Since updating the Otago Regional Statement we have continued to consult with a wide range of stakeholders. Regional facilitation activities have included data gathering, liaising with stakeholders and meeting with specific stakeholder groups including the 30 Permanent External Advisory Committees (PEACs), comprising wide cross-sector industry representation. This activity will continue to be used to inform and update the Regional Statement and the education and training needs, gaps and priorities of tertiary education provision in this region.
