Lecturer awarded Fulbright scholarship

Otago Polytechnic and the School of Occupational Therapy are pleased to congratulate Dr. Linda H Wilson who has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Scholarship.

Linda is a New Zealand Registered Occupational Therapist who has practiced occupational therapy in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

She has been active in practice, management, education and in professional bodies in New Zealand (including time representing New Zealand at the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and serving as the educator representative on the New Zealand Occupational Therapy Registration Board).

She was the foundation head of school at the Otago Polytechnic School of Occupational Therapy, which opened in 1990, and voluntarily relinquished the role at the end of 2005.

Over this period of time our department moved pre-registration education from diploma to bachelors, put in an honours stream, developed a post-graduate diploma and masters by distance education.

She is now involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and research.  She chairs the institutional research ethics committee and contributes to the institutional staff education and development programmes related to Treaty Education.

Linda will spend three months in the US later this year. During this leave she will teach, undertake new course development, complete some writing, and progress some of her research.

She will have time at the University of New Hampshire and at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and present at the conference of the Society for the Study of Occupations in New Haven Connecticut.

She will also use this time to develop a new 14 week online postgraduate course.
