Otago Polytechnic rises to the Otago Daily Times’ challenge to "Help the Hospice Campaign" by pledging to donate a minimum of $20,000 raised through its Charity House Auction on November 22.

Otago Polytechnic’s Business Relationship Advisor Bevan Rickerby says the Otago Daily Times’ campaign – which aims to raise more than $200,000 for the hospice from businesses throughout the province – is a "great opportunity for Otago Polytechnic and its partners to show their support".

"The hospice provides an essential health service. We wish to acknowledge that and the superb work they do by earmarking a minimum of $20,000 from funds raised from our Charity House Auction.

"This is a real opportunity for the ‘town and gown’ partnership to benefit the community we live in. Nineteen other Dunedin businesses are supporting us with the Charity House Auction."

The Charity House Auction is an integral part of Otago Polytechnic’s ethos – providing students with ‘hands-on-learning’ opportunities while benefiting Dunedin’s wider community.

Building a house from start to finish is part of student’s pre-trade carpentry certificate and ensures they have relevant, up-to-date skills.

Thanks to the support of local businesses and suppliers the lucky buyer will receive a home package complete with fresh paint, soft furnishings, floor coverings, a bedroom package, a heat pump and a complete kitchen, and they will also come away with the knowledge that they too have done their bit for the community.

All are welcome to come along to this year’s Charity House Auction and show their support on November 22 at 2pm, at Otago Polytechnic (rear of L Block) on Parry Street.

Otago Polytechnic would like to take this opportunity to thank all their partners and supporters in the 2008 Charity House Auction:
