Otago Polytechnic has refined its strategic approach to the provision of tertiary education and training services in the wider Otago Region. We are committed to our students, providing high quality and unique programmes, comprehensive student services, and a campus experience unparalleled in New Zealand.

In their 2002 reforms for tertiary education, Government emphasised their expectations for the tertiary sector to contribute more explicitly to critical national development goals. While this is central to our thinking we are also very committed to a focus on regional development and working closely with the wide range of stakeholders and communities we serve.

Otago Polytechnic provides quality tertiary education and training to a broad range of communities. Our Charter affords us an opportunity to reflect more purposefully the long term aims and aspirations of the communities and stakeholders we serve. Together with our Profile, our Charter reflects what our communities believe are the opportunities for tertiary education and training that will advance their prosperity, well being and economic development. In 2003 extensive consultation with stakeholders and our communities assisted us in the development of Otago Polytechnic's first Charter.

In 2005 we asked communities and stakeholders to help us refresh and review those ideas, to ensure our new Charter continued to be relevant and reflect wise strategies for tertiary educational opportunities for the wider Otago Region and contribute to national strategies. We also wanted to extend our vision embracing strategies that will carry us forward for the next 10 years. As you will see we have made a number of significant changes to the new Charter 2006-2010 (PDF). We invite you to take a look at it.
