Our programmes are focused on the construction industry. Everything that is not a natural landform or a consumer product has been produced as part of our industry. Our homes, our schools, our office blocks, the roads we drive on, our public spaces - the built environment where we live. Who makes these things happen?

Graduates from Otago Polytechnic’s Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering programmes – that’s who! And currently, there is a real shortage of graduates to meet the needs of industry.

We offer a range of construction-related and technology programmes, each designed to equip you with the practical skills and specialised knowledge you’ll need to have a successful career in New Zealand. Courses are taught in specialist purpose-built classrooms and workshops on the edge of Dunedin’s vibrant tertiary campuses. Our facilities are state-of-the-art, with modern equipment that in many cases leads industry in information technology. You can also expect hands-on learning with programmes that include work placements, field trips, and problem-solving tasks using real-life scenarios.

Our lecturers are all skilled and experienced. Many teach part-time while remaining industry leaders in their fields. The experience and ideas from practising professionals is an important component of our programmes; you can be sure that you’re trained using the most relevant technologies and up to date methods.

At Otago Polytechnic we offer a wide range of programmes in engineering, automotive, electrotechnology, and transport. We’re in the business of equipping you with the practical skills and knowledge to set you up in a career for life, so all of programmes have been developed with the industry in mind. You can expect to get hands-on experience, in well-equipped workshops, with lecturers who know all about putting skills into practice in the real world.

If you’re looking for an apprenticeship in an area such as road transport, engineering, or electrical or automotive technology, we will set you on the right track. We have developed strong relationships with government and industry associations, and our apprentices are constantly ranked amongst the best in the country. A qualification from the Otago Polytechnic will even reduce the length of your apprenticeship.
