The Sustainable Habitat Challenge (SHaC) is a national project for teams from around New Zealand to design, develop, and build sustainable housing in their local community.

Otago Polytechnic’s passionate students and expert staff have teamed up with local professionals to take part in this national project to build a more sustainable home for the Otago environment.

Sustainable design features reduce reliance on unnecessary resources, and are good to consider when retrofitting or building. The Otago Polytechnic design includes effective, sustainable space heating, good solar design to capture and store heat from the sun, efficient water use, less toxic materials, and other features to allow for dry firewood storage, clothes drying, and easy composting. Come along and see Otago Polytechnic’s SHaC 09 Team’s display showing their progress in designing and constructing a sustainable house entry for this exciting competition.

Showcase times and location

19th-22nd november, L block, Anzac ave.
